In celebration of the European Capital of Science title awarded to the City of Katowice, in 2024 our city will host a number of events and conferences attended by representatives of science, politics and business from around the world. The universities will also undertake numerous joint initiatives for investment, such as the creation of a Network Science Center.

During the press briefing "Let's Build a City of Science" held on Thursday, June 30, 2022, as part of the World Urban Forum WUF11 the concept of creating a Network Science Center over the Rawa river was presented. The concept involves joint investment and cooperation between universities and the city to show both visitors and residents of the region the work and scientific achievements of the numerous academic centers.

"I am glad that for some time now we have been talking a lot about science, and especially the role of science in the transformation of our city and the region. This is a voice not only coming from the academic communities, including the University of Economics in Katowice, but also from the city's authorities. I am very pleased that both the Rectors and the entire academic communities see science as a powerful tool transforming the region. It is rare that there is such a consensus between academics and the city representatives. I believe that our united voice in the matter was noticed by the committee that awarded the title of European City of Science to Katowice. The cooperation will certainly benefit each of the universities, but above all, the city's residents. Science serves this region and the city, and people who live here are happy with the presence of 7 universities in Katowice. Our Metropolis is no longer characterized by heavy industry only, but also science and new technologies. We need to look at this issue more broadly, thinking about networking cooperation, expanding it to the entire Metropolis and spreading it to other universities or cities in order to adopt such a concept" - Prof. Celina M. Olszak Ph.D., D.Sc. emphasized during the briefing.
