Recent Activities of the Faculty of Economics

The end of August and the beginning of September 2025 were particularly active for the staff of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Economics in Katowice. During this time, they took part in a series of prestigious conferences and congresses in Poland and abroad.

 

26–29 August 2025 – representatives of the Faculty of Economics participated in the 64th Congress of the European Regional Science Association (ERSA), organised by Panteion University in Athens.

At the same time, prof. dr hab. Krystian Heffner and dr Piotr Gibas delivered a presentation entitled Urban fragmentation as an effect of marginalisation processes. The case of Upper Silesian Conurbation during the 10th EUGEO Congress, organised by the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.

1–5 September 2025 – staff members of the Department took part in the 32nd International Conference & Exhibition Geographic Information Systems "GIS Odyssey 2025", held in Croatia (Kaštela, Trogir, Split and the Dalmatian islands). The event was co-organised by universities and research institutes from Poland and Croatia. 

3–5 September 2025 – the 33rd International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD 2025) took place in Belgrade. One of the speakers was prof. UE dr hab. Anna Sączewska-Piotrowska, who presented two papers during a session dedicated to digital transformation. 

10–14 September 2025 – the Congress of Polish Geography was held in Lublin under the theme “Geography without borders”. Organised by the Polish Geographical Society and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, the event served as the most important forum for discussing contemporary challenges of geography, spatial economy, and urban and regional policy in Poland.
