The first sessions of “Campus Living Lab – Co-Play&Create” have begun at the University of Economics in Katowice. The Regional Living Lab (RLL) initiative is implemented within the BAUHAUS4EU European University Alliance.
The initiative aims to assess the spatial layout and functionality of the University’s campus on Bogucicka Street. The project focuses on challenges related to the quality of public spaces, accessibility and the needs of the university community.
The sessions combine knowledge of spatial planning, economics and urban sociology with practical methods of spatial analysis. Students will conduct field research, use GIS tools and apply modern digital methods for collecting spatial data. They will also identify the needs of different campus user groups. The sessions are led by:
- dr Agnieszka Majorek-Gdula (Department of Spatial and Environmental Economics),
- dr Piotr Stefański (Department of Machine Learning),
- Wiktoria Jędrusik, MA (Department of Strategic and Regional Studies).
A key element of the Regional Living Lab is its participatory approach, which involves collaboration, joint identification of problems and the development of solutions with different stakeholder groups. In January, students will organise participatory workshops for the university community. During these workshops, they will present their research findings, discuss them in light of participants’ experiences and views, and further develop their assessment of the campus.
Participation in the project enables students to develop analytical, research and project skills, while gaining experience in participatory spatial planning. It also provides an opportunity to involve the university community in identifying needs and exploring solutions to make the campus more accessible, functional and welcoming.
The first meeting of the RLL initiative “Campus Living Lab – Co-Play&Create” took place on 26 October. It gave participants an opportunity to get to know one another, build connections and begin forming project teams. Students were introduced to the initiative’s objectives and planned activities, and began discussing potential areas of work, research methods and tools to be used in the next stages of the project. The meeting provided space to exchange ideas, identify shared interests and prepare for further interdisciplinary collaboration.
