European City of Science 2024
The title of the European City of Science is awarded by the EuroScience organization in cooperation with the European Commission.
Katowice is the first city in Central and Eastern Europe to be awarded the title of the European City of Science. The city gains numerous benefits through obtaining this title, including increased opportunities to raise funds for the development of science, as well as increasing the city's tourism attractiveness internationally.
It is also a wonderful opportunity to present science in an accessible way, highlighting its multidimensionality.
The goals of the European City of Science 2024 include:
- initiating the transformation of the region through science,
- providing residents with unlimited access to knowledge (making it the primary instrument of public dialogue).
As part of the European City of Science, many events will be held throughout the year, carried out within the framework of 50 thematic weeks. The program has been prepared based on six thematic paths on selected issues for which science can seek answers and solutions, such as:
- health and quality of life,
- climate and environment,
- industries of the future,
- social innovations,
- industrial and cultural heritage,
- creativity and criticism.
All the events prepared as part of the European City of Science have both local and international dimensions. The entire program is inclusive, designed for all social and age groups.
