On October 7, 2026, Routledge published the book Climate Change, Behaviour and Economics. The volume is edited by Julia Włodarczyk, Dominika Bochańczyk-Kupka, Julia M. Puaschunder and Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala. The book presents a broad, interdisciplinary perspective on the relationship between climate change and human behaviour, with particular emphasis on behavioural economics and the psychological aspects of pro-climate decision-making.
The monograph consists of 14 chapters written by researchers representing academic institutions from eight countries across four continents: Austria, the Czech Republic, Japan, Mauritius, Monaco, Poland, the United States and Hungary. The foreword was written by Wolfram Elsner, recipient of the 2026 Veblen-Commons Award granted by the Association for Evolutionary Economics.
More information about the publication is available on the Routledge website.
We particularly encourage readers to explore two chapters resulting from the research project entitled "BIDding on climate: Behavioural and Informational Determinants of Pro-Climate Decisions" (2025-2027), carried out under the leadership of Julia Włodarczyk:
- Human Behaviour in the Face of Climate Change: A Historical Perspective - Dominika Bochańczyk-Kupka, Julia M. Puaschunder, Julia Włodarczyk
- Information about Climate Change and Individual Attitude: From Credible Information to Fake News - Karina Rutecka-Cicha, Paulina Rutecka-Cicha, Riad Sultan, Julia Włodarczyk
The publication is one of the key outcomes of the research project entitled "BIDding on climate: Behavioural and Informational Determinants of Pro-Climate Decisions" (2025-2027), carried out under the leadership of Julia Włodarczyk. The project received funding in the second edition of the competition for research projects implemented by research teams under the "UEKAT Scientific Research and Educational Excellence Programme".
The first public discussion of the book will take place on October 20, 2026, at George Washington University in the United States. The event will feature, among others, Steve Suranovic, one of the authors, and Julia Włodarczyk, lead editor and author. The Institute for International Economic Policy at George Washington University describes the event as a book presentation and discussion open to everyone.
Details of the event are available on the Institute for International Economic Policy (GWU) website.
