On September 18, 2026, the University of Economics in Katowice hosted European Commission experts as part of an assessment visit in the process of renewing the HR Excellence in Research award under the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R). The visit was an important stage summarising the implementation of HRS4R activities at the University of Economics in Katowice.
During the meetings, the experts reviewed the University's activities related to the implementation of European standards concerning working conditions, research career development and the functioning of the academic environment. The discussions covered, among other topics, HRS4R strategy and management, recruitment and research career development, ethics and equality, open science, working conditions, the training and competence development system, as well as support for doctoral students and researchers at various stages of their careers.
An important element of the visit was a series of meetings with representatives of the academic community, including researchers at various stages of their careers. This allowed the experts to learn not only about formal and organisational solutions, but also about the experiences of those directly affected by the activities carried out under HRS4R.
The visit was also an opportunity to summarise the changes that have taken place at UEKat in the area of policies supporting researchers and to discuss further directions for development.

The implementation of the HRS4R strategy is a continuous process. In the new academic year, the University faces further tasks related to the continued implementation of activities, monitoring their effects and developing solutions concerning research careers and researchers' working conditions.
The visit concluded another stage of the HRS4R process. The University is now awaiting the report of the European Commission experts and the formal decision regarding the renewal of the HR Excellence in Research award.
HR Excellence in Research at UEKat
The University of Economics in Katowice participates in the HR Excellence in Research initiative, which aims to support research institutions in implementing European standards concerning working conditions and the career development of researchers.
The implementation of HRS4R is based on the systematic analysis of the needs of the academic community, planning activities, implementing them and monitoring their effects. The next stage will involve the implementation of new tasks planned for the 2026/2027 academic year and the further improvement of solutions concerning policies for researchers.
