UEKat sets the direction for the future. New development strategy through 2033

What should the university of the future look like?

The University of Economics in Katowice presents its answer to this question.

The Senate of the University has adopted the Development Strategy of the University of Economics in Katowice for 2026-2033 - a document that defines the institution’s direction in times of profound technological, social, and economic change. This is not just a management plan. It is a vision of a university that aims to actively co-create the future of science, the economy, and the region.

As emphasized by HM the Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice prof. dr hab. inż. Celina M. Olszak:

The strategy is not an ordinary document. It is a shared manifesto of ambition, courage, and responsibility. In a world that is changing faster than ever before, the University of Economics in Katowice wants not only to respond to challenges, but also to anticipate them and help shape the future.

LEAD - UEKat’s development model

The new strategy is based on the original LEAD model, which defines four pillars of the University’s development:

  • Learning Innovation - modern education that develops future-oriented competencies and prepares students for lifelong learning.
  • Excellence in Research - high-quality scientific research conducted within the international research environment.
  • Academic-Industry Synergy - close cooperation between the University, business, and public institutions, as well as knowledge transfer to the economy.
  • Dynamic University Governance - efficient and modern university management based on data, technology, and institutional accountability.

The strategy has been prepared based on in-depth strategic analyses and data on changes in higher education, the economy, and society. The document defines 20 strategic objectives and 27 key development indicators that will allow the University to monitor progress in its most important areas of activity.

A university at the center of regional transformation

The University of Economics in Katowice operates in a region undergoing one of the largest economic transformations in Europe. Therefore, the new strategy assumes the University’s active involvement in energy, digital, and social transformation processes, as well as the development of competencies needed for the economy of the future.

UEKat’s ambition is to build a modern, open, and credible university that combines academic tradition with the courage to innovate, and local roots with international cooperation.

The 2026-2033 Strategy is also an invitation to joint action for the entire academic community - students, doctoral candidates, staff, alumni, and the University’s partners.
