University of Economics in Katowice provides both leisure and work spaces for Ukrainian refugees

As part of measures undertaken by the University of Economics in Katowice in solidarity with Ukraine, we invite refugees from Ukraine to use our facilities providing space for both work and leisure; an area with computer workstations equipped with Internet access and software for more “quiet” work, and space dedicated to children for more “fun” activities. All the workstations have operating systems installed, including MS Office, as well as special keyboards suitable for use while writing in Polish, English and Ukrainian language.

Space for "quiet" work

The quiet workspace (with 8 computer workstations) is located in the University's Specialist Library, located in the Advanced Information Technology Center [CNTI] (Bogucicka Street 5, 40-287 Katowice). 

In order to use the facility, please, visit during the opening hours of the library.

Space with a play area for children

The space with children's play area and 4 computer workstations is located in room No. 121 of building "A" (Bogucicka Street 3, 40-287 Katowice). In order to use it, please, visit "Welcome Point" located in room No. 112.

Opening hours: 8:00-15:00 - Monday to Friday

Rules and Regulations on the use of the area for "quiet" work in the framework of the University of Economics in Katowice in solidarity with Ukraine

  1. Visitors may use the Specialist Library's resources on-site only. Such usage does not require the creation of a library account.

  2. Reading room users are required to:

  • leave outer garments, briefcases, bags, rucksacks etc. in the locker room,

  • keep quiet.

  1. Computer workstations intended for users are an integral part of the Specialist Library.

  2. The Specialist Library allows the use of:

  • computer workstations operating in the protected University network;
  • one’s own computers and other mobile devices.
  1. Computer users are obliged to utilize them according to their purpose.

  2. Visitors may use materials brought along with them after notifying the librarian on duty about such fact.

  3. Free access collections can be used by the visitors in the reading room of the Specialized Library on their own. After finished usage, such materials are to be placed back in specially designated areas. Visitors are forbidden from returning books to the shelves by themselves.

  4. Visitors are fully responsible for the state of the resources entrusted to them. They are obliged to follow all remarks and instructions of the librarian on duty concerning the way of using the resources and their safety.

  5. Any damage to the resources or other irregularities should be reported to the librarian on duty.

  6. The Internet access, along with the sent or received content, is provided at the sole responsibility of the user who is held accountable for the way the account used to log in is utilized, including criminal liability.

  7. The Library is not responsible for service malfunctions (especially the Internet outages) and possible loss of user data.

  8. Computer users of the Specialist Library are not allowed to:

  • perform actions that may lead to the devastation or damage of the library computers and equipment,
  • perform any changes in the configuration of library computers nor interfere with the content of collected data,
  • upload or share content which is illegal or subject to the intellectual property protection.
  1. Software accessible in the computer reading room is subject to copyright law and license restrictions. It is not allowed to copy or misuse it.

Rules and Regulations for the use of space with a children's play area in the framework of the University of Economics in Katowice in solidarity with Ukraine

  1. The possibility to use the area is granted to the visitor after signing in on the "List of Users" (name and surname). The date and time of the beginning and the end of the area usage shall be filled in by the "Welcome Point" employee on duty in the presence of the visitor. The date and time of use as well as familiarization with and commitment to abide by the rules and regulations of using the designated space shall be confirmed by the visitor with appropriate signatures on the "List of Users".

  2. Once done with the area use, such fact should be reported to the "Welcome Point" employee on duty.

  3. Visitors may use the facility’s resources on-site only.

  4. Users are required to leave coats, briefcases, bags, backpacks etc. in the locker room. 

  5. The area allows the use of:

  • computer workstations operating in the protected University network;

  • one’s own computers and other mobile devices.

  1. Computer users are obliged to utilize them according to their purpose.

  2. Visitors may use materials brought along with them after notifying the "Welcome Point" employee on duty about such fact.

  3. Resources in the area are provided and to be used independently at the sole responsibility of the visitor.

  4. Once finished with the work or play, make sure the area is left neat and tidy, especially in regards to the objects used and their placement.

  5. Children (minors) are the responsibility of their legal guardians. They cannot be left unattended.

  6. In the event of any damage to the health of the visitor (legal guardian) or the child (minor) arising from the use of the area, the legal guardian will not claim any compensation from the University of Economics in Katowice.

  7. Visitors are fully responsible for the state of the resources entrusted to them. They are obliged to follow all remarks and instructions of the "Welcome Point" employee on duty concerning the way of using resources and their safety.

  8. Any damage or irregularities must be reported to the "Welcome Point" employee on duty.

Instructions for logging in to computer workstations

  1. Information with account login details necessary for computer access is available at the computer workstations.

  2. Three language versions of login are possible - Polish, English or Ukrainian. The use of a given version affects the language of the operating system and available software.

  3. Log out of the computer account after finishing your work.
