Visit of AACSB mentor at our university

Prof. Anne Sinnot, Deputy President of Dublin City University and also Vice-President for Equality Diversity and Inclusion, member of the AACSB Continuous Review Committee and its European Advisory Panel, visited our university on 24th February. Prof. Sinnot is a mentor supporting our AACSB Accreditation Team in the process of developing the Initial Self Evaluation Report (iSER).

She was welcomed to the University by JM Rector Prof. Dr. Celina Olszak, who emphasized the importance of accreditation in the process of implementing the Development Strategy of the University of Economics in Katowice 2018-2025. The experience of acquiring previous international accreditations - CEEMAN for the entire University and EFMD Accredited for the International Business program - clearly showed that accreditation is not an end in itself, but a process that helps to identify the weaknesses and strengths of the University, to take measures to implement improvements. Efforts to achieve accreditation stimulate critical reflection and improvement activities, making the benefit of accreditation not only the recognizable seal of quality obtained after the entire process, but all that happens and what the university gains in the course of preparation. Accreditation thus helps raise the university's visibility internationally, but most importantly it fosters a culture of quality.

Our mentor, during her visit, also had the opportunity to tour our campus, including the Welcome Point and the dean's office, and held a series of meetings: with the Vice-Rector for Education and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Slawomir Smyczek, the Dean of the the School of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Prof. Justyna Matysiewicz, and the Task Force on Learning Competencies.

Our University began the process of pursuing the AACSB accreditation in 2019, and received a positive assessment of the eligibility application in 2020, thus gaining approval to proceed to the next stage of applying for the accreditation: the development of the iSER self-assessment report. The AACSB Accreditation Team, supported by the mentor as well as many units across the university, plan to submit the first iSER report this May.
