World Values Day

On October 19, we celebrated World Values Day at our University. The celebrations included discussions on what role values play in our private and professional lives, chaired by dr hab. Julia Włodarczyk, prof. UE.

What unites 435,000 people working in an international environment, speaking more than a dozen languages and representing just as many nationalities? Values! They are the unifying factor in the modern business services sector, one of the more diverse industries in Poland (in terms of age, origin or gender), with companies affiliated in ABSL Poland (Association of Business Service Leaders).

On October 19, we gathered at the auditorium in the Advanced Information Technology Center (CNTI) building to celebrate World Values Day with activists, scientists and opinion leaders. The discussions focused on how our identities affect our sense of belonging, both socially and in business! The assembled participants were welcomed by Stan Cieśla, Chapter Leader Silesia (ABSL), who asked them to write down on cards the values that are most important to them. The most common were goodness, respect, joy or family.

The debate "A sense of belonging in a changing world. How to find yourself in a time of social, cultural and business changes" followed, attended by Szczepan Twardoch (writer and publicist) and Katarzyna Daab-Borkowska, Mayor's Representative for Equal Treatment at the Katowice City Hall.

Another debate, "The many shades of belonging and commitment", was attended by representatives of Vialto, Kyndryl and ING.
