On 3 November 2026, the University of Economics in Katowice hosted the first session of “How to Manage Green Events”, a course organised as part of the Student-Led Courses (SLC) initiative within the BAUHAUS4EU European University Alliance. The course, dedicated to sustainable event management, was designed and is being delivered by Yelyzaveta Kashlieva, a second-year Master's student in International Business.
The opening session began with a welcome address by prof. dr. hab. Wojciech Dyduch, Vice-Rector for Teaching and International Relations, and Edyta Lachowicz-Santos, Institutional Coordinator of the BAUHAUS4EU project. During the opening, the importance of international academic cooperation and initiatives that enable students to actively contribute to shaping the University's educational offer was highlighted.
The participants were also addressed by dr hab. Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala, prof. UE, Academic Coordinator of Work Package 9 (WP9), under which the Student-Led Courses initiative is being developed, and dr hab. Dominika Bochańczyk-Kupka, prof. UE, who serves as the academic mentor for the “How to Manage Green Events” course. The opening provided an opportunity to introduce participants to the concept of Student-Led Courses, which encourages students to take an active role in designing and delivering courses with the support of academic staff.
Following the opening, participants began exploring the practical aspects of organising events in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. The first session covered the environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainable event management, as well as the often-overlooked impacts of events – from transport and catering to materials, waste management and accessibility.
Student-Led Courses is a BAUHAUS4EU initiative that enables students to move beyond the role of learners and become course designers and instructors themselves. With the support of academic mentors, students can share their knowledge, develop teaching and organisational skills, and bring their own educational ideas to life in an international academic environment.
We would also like to remind students that the second call for Student-Led Course proposals within BAUHAUS4EU is currently open. This is an opportunity for students who would like to design and deliver their own course, share their interests and gain valuable experience in developing and implementing their own educational initiatives.
