About the Alliance
BAUHAUS4EU is an alliance within the European Universities initiative involving 10 universities across Europe, including the University of Economics in Katowice. This transnational alliance focuses on long-term collaboration based on shared values by creating a sustainable, inclusive, and culturally enriching future for urban and rural regions by fostering regional cooperation, systemic institutional and educational transformation. The alliance work is aligned with the objectives of the European Education Area, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the European Commission’s New European Bauhaus initiative.
The European Universities initiative is a program supported by the European Commission that aims to strengthen cooperation between universities in Europe, promoting shared values and enhancing the quality of education. There are currently 65 alliances operating in Europe. Poland has representatives in 30 of them – that's a total of 32 universities.
What is BAUHAUS4EU?
BAUHAUS4EU is an alliance within the European Universities initiative that brings together 10 universities from across Europe.
Universities - including those in Poland - are no longer functioning solely as independent institutions. They are becoming part of a shared European higher education system. What connects them is no longer only student mobility, but above all joint education and long-term cooperation.
Today, 32 Polish universities participate in 65 European Universities alliances, showing that Poland is at the centre of this transformation.
What does this mean in practice?
For regions and countries, it means stronger links between universities, local innovation ecosystems, and European priorities.
For students, researchers, and staff, it creates real opportunities to work on challenges that matter both locally and across Europe.
What opportunities does this offer?
Students and staff can benefit from courses offered by partner institutions through the Course Catalogue. There is also the possibility to propose ideas and co-create innovative learning formats such as Regional Living Labs, Student-led Courses, and European Bauhaus Courses.
In the next stages of development, certified courses in the form of microcredentials will also be introduced, as well as joint study programmes leading to the BAUHAUS4EU Diploma.
The strength of diversity
What distinguishes Europe is the diversity of languages, cultures, experiences, and ways of thinking.
European Universities alliances transform this diversity into real educational value.
Students not only learn in an international environment, but also learn to collaborate across borders, between different academic systems and cultures. This experience results from genuine cooperation, not merely the presence of students from different countries.
BAUHAUS4EU - education connected with reality
BAUHAUS4EU is building a Europe that is sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful - not only technologically advanced.
It connects education with real life: cities, regions, climate, culture, and social challenges become part of the learning process.
The alliance consists of 10 universities from 9 countries that jointly develop education, research, innovation, and societal cooperation in order to support regions that are more resilient, open, and liveable.
What makes us unique?
Our universities are strongly rooted in their regions - often in medium-sized cities. These regions become living laboratories of innovation.
Students work on real European challenges - such as climate transition, social integration, or economic change - not only in theory, but in practice, in cooperation with researchers, local authorities, cultural institutions, and businesses.
Looking more broadly
Europe’s future depends on people who are able to think beyond borders.
European Universities alliances educate a generation that is environmentally aware, culturally open, and ready for international cooperation.
