The University of Economics in Katowice has been present in Rybnik since 2002 and educated students at the Rybnik Research and Teaching Centre. In order to improve the quality of education and take steps to conform with new legal regulations, in 2014 the authorities of the University decided to gradually transform the Rybnik Research and Teaching Centre into the Faculty of Business, Finance and Administration in Rybnik (Resolution no. 58/2013/2014 of the Senate of the University of Economics in Katowice).
At first, the Faculty in Rybnik (Order no. 50/14) was a basic organizational unit. The Faculty in Rybnik has educated students since the academic year 2015/2016, when its first authorities were appointed and its educational activity started.
Finance and Accounting was chosen as the leading study program for the new unit (Resolution of the Senate no. 14/2014/2015). Due to regulatory requirements and real needs of the Rybnik area, which is characterized by a high concentration of business entities (mostly small and medium-sized enterprises) and has a large demand for graduates with practical training who are prepared to perform economic tasks, the key issue was to focus on the practical side of the proposed study program. Moreover, students can specify their interests when they choose a specialization. Students can apply for admission to first-cycle studies offered as full-time or part-time programs.
On 1 October 2019, the Faculty was transformed into the Branch of the School of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies of the University of Economics in Katowice.
