Poster contest

Important dates:

Deadline for submitting a poster application with an abstract: April 17, 2023.
Deadline for submitting posters: May 7, 2023.

Please submit your posters in pdf format to the e-mail address: konferencja.trojstyk@uekat.pl 

Technical requirements for the poster:

  • the poster should be prepared in A1 format (420×594 mm);
  • preferred orientation of the poster – horizontal;
  • minimum margins from the edge of the poster equal to 20 mm;
  • the poster should use a Calibri font only;
  • individual substantive parts should be titled in the form of 1-row headings with a size of 30 points (bold), numbered with consecutive Arabic numerals;
  • the basic text of the poster should be prepared in a size of at least 20 points;
  • captions under figures and tables according to the standard of scientific studies.

The poster should contain in particular:

  • title (font size above 30 points, in bold) – clearly distinguishable from other elements of the poster;
  • names, surnames, and professional or academic titles of the authors, along with affiliations;
  • detailing the headings of the individual sections of the presented study;
  • bibliography: minimum font size of 15 points.

Regulations of the Best Scientific Poster Competition IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists „Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management” 18th-19th May 2023

§1 Definitions

1. The Organizer of the Best Scientific Poster Competition is the Doctoral Students’ Government of the University of Economics in Katowice.

2. The Scientific Poster Session – the event of the scientific posters’ public presentation, which will be held online on 18th May 2023 during the IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists „Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management”.

3. The Conference – the IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists „Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management”.

4. The Competition – the Best Scientific Poster Competition within the IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists „Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management”.

5. The Contest Entrant – any author/co-author of the scientific poster presented at the IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists „Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management” who will state willingness to participate in the Best Scientific Poster Competition and who will send the poster (that includes all formal requirements stated by Organizer).

§2 General provisions

1. The Competition aims to select and reward the best scientific poster among the posters presented during the Scientific Poster Session and submitted to the Competition.

2. The Competition is held on the terms specified in this Regulations and under generally applicable law.

3. Applying is equivalent to acceptance of these Regulations.

4. The Competition will take place if at least 8 Contest Entrants apply.

5. The Organizer reserves the right to change the provisions of these Regulations. In the case described, the Organizer undertakes to inform the Contest Entrants.

6. The scientific posters must be original works under the provisions of the Act on Copyright and Related Rights.

7. The Conference Organizing Committee is responsible for the proper course of the Competition.

8. The Organizer reserves the right to reject posters that do not meet the formal requirements imposed by these Regulations.

9. Any questions, comments, and claims should be submitted to the Conference Organizing Committee at the e-mail address: konferencja.trojstyk@uekat.pl .

§3 Contest Entrants/Registration

1. The Contest Entrants are all the Scientific Posters’ authors/co-authors who, at the same time:

a. stated willingness to participate in the Competition by selecting the appropriate option in the registration form,

b. completed and submitted the application form within the deadlines laid down in §5 of these Regulations,

c. has received the final acceptance of the application by the Organizer. 2. The maximum number of co-authors is 3.

3. The application should be made by selecting the appropriate option in the registration form and sending the digital version of the scientific poster with information about the authors (including their affiliation) to the e-mail address: konferencja.trojstyk@uekat.pl within the deadlines laid down in §5 of these Regulations.

4. Applying is equivalent to consent to the free placement of the digital version of the scientific poster on the Organizer’s Facebook.com website and the Conference website.

§4 Formal requirements for scientific poster

1. The scientific poster’s topic should support the idea of the Conference.

2. Scientific posters can be prepared on the basis of both empirical and review studies.

3. Formal requirements:

a. poster should be in A1 format (420×594 mm),

b. preferred poster orientation – horizontal. Minimal margins from the page edge equal 20 mm,

c. Calibri font should be used in scientific posters,

d. particular substantive sections should be titled with the use of first-level 30-point headers in bold and numbered consecutively using Roman numerals,

e. the main text of the scientific poster should be at least 20 points,

f. footnotes under figures and tables should be written according to the research papers’ standards.

4. Scientific posters should contain in particular:

a. title (fond at least 30 points, bolded) which should be clearly distinct from the rest of the poster’s elements,

b. authors’ names, surnames, professional/scientific titles, and information about their affiliation,

c. subsequent scientific poster sections highlighted with their titles,

d. references written in a font of at least 15 points.

§5 Timeline

1. The deadline for sending the scientific poster with the abstract through the application form is 17 April 2023.

2. The deadline for sending the digital version of the scientific poster along with the information about authors and their affiliation to the Organizer to the e-mail address: konferencja.trojstyk@uekat.pl is 7 May 2023. Failure to submit the digital version of the scientific poster within the deadline will result in the entrant’s exclusion from the content.

3. The Scientific Poster Session will be held on 18 May 2023. The exact time of the session and the exact time of each instance, during which the presentation and evaluation of the posters will take place, will be given together with the final Conference schedule.

4. The results of the Competition will be announced on 26 May 2023.

5. The Organizer reserves the right to change the time of the results’ announcement if the Conference schedule will change. In the case described, the Organizer undertakes to inform the Contest Entrants.

§6 Prizes

1. The prizes will be awarded by the Chairman of the Conference Organization Committee, Prof. Artur Walasik, Ph.D., based on the verdict of the commission consisting of Chairman of the Conference Organization Committee, Prof. Artur Walasik and the Conference Scientific Committee.

2. The Commission shall assess the scientific posters in terms of

a. substantive value

b. methodology

c. scientific contribution

d. originality

3. Each member of the commission shall make an individual assessment of each poster on a scale from 0 to 5. The obtained results will be summed up, and then the winners with the highest number of points will be selected on this basis.

4. In case of equality of points, the winning poster will be elected by the Chairman of the Commission - i.e., Chairman of the Conference Organization Committee, Prof. Artur Walasik, Ph.D.

5. Commission members do not evaluate the posters of which they are promoters, reviewers, authors, or co-authors.

6. The following awards in the Competition are established: 1st place – 1st degree Book Prize 2nd place – 2nd degree Book Prize 3rd place – 3rd degree Book Prize

7. After announcing the Competition results, the Organized shall ask the awarded content entrants whether they wish to receive the awards in person (in the Dean’s Office of the Ph.D. School of the University of Economics in Katowice) or by post. If the awarded content entrants choose the second option, the Organizer shall ask them to indicate the address where the prizes should be sent.

8. The value of individual prizes will not exceed PLN 2000,00.

9. The awarded posters, along with their authors' names, names, and affiliations, will be placed on the Facebook.com website of the organizer and the conference website.

§7 Processing of personal data

1. The Organizer processes the necessary personal data of the Contest Entrants for the needs of their taking part in the event and this event implementation.

2. The applicable information clause of the Organizer's GDPR can be found at the Organizer's and on the conference website.

Information clause of the Personal Data Controller – the Best Scientific Poster Competition during IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists „Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management”

Under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016, on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC – General Data Protection Regulation, hereinafter referred to as GDPR (Journal of Laws UE L 119 of 04.05.2016, item 1, as further amended), we inform that the lawfulness of the processing shall comply with the conditions laid down in Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR (consent), Article 6 (1) (b) GDPR (necessity to perform the contract), Article 6 (1) (c) GDPR (legal obligation incumbent on the Personal Data Controller), or Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interests pursued by the Personal Data Controller), and that:

1) The Administrator of Your personal data set out in point 4) is the Doctoral Students’ Government of the University of Economics in Katowice, with its registered office at 1 Maja 50, 40-287 Katowice, hereinafter referred to as Administrator;

2) The Administrator can be contacted by mailing: konferencja.trojstyk@uekat.pl;

3) The Administrator shall process the personal data of the following persons: contest entrants of the Best Scientific Poster Competition during IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists “Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management” and persons supervising the course of this competition;

4) The necessary personal data of the persons set out in point 3) will be processed, as specified in the applicable law, including name, surname, signature, image, professional/scientific titles of the posters’ authors with affiliation, contact details, and other required personal data necessary for their processing as part of the purposes referred to in point 6);

5) Providing personal data to the extent required by applicable legal regulations is mandatory and necessary to achieve the purposes set out in point 6); in other cases giving personal data is voluntary; refusal to provide specific personal data may cause the lack of implementation of the said purposes;

6) Your data set out in point 4) will be processed for implementation, settlement of all activities related to the organization, and participation in the Best Scientific Poster Competition during IV National Scientific Conference of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists “Tripoint – Economics, Finance, Management” to the extent specified by applicable legal regulations, the performance of information, archiving and statistical obligations by the Administrator, direct contacts, the implementation of all activities related to the objectives in question, the protection of the Administrator’s interests (including possible pursuing claims that may arise in connection with the implementation of the purposes in question or the defense against such claims) and the keeping of documentation required by applicable law;

7) Having Your data set out in point 4) by the Administrator is a requirement resulting from the provisions of the law in force in this area and from the achievement of the purposes referred to in point 6);

8) The processing of personal data set out in point (4) is not envisaged for purposes other than the purpose for which the personal data were collected, as set out in point (6);

9) The recipients of your personal data set out in point 4) are persons authorized by the Administrator, possible entities processing personal data on behalf of the Administrator, and entities authorized to obtain personal data based on applicable law;

10) Your data set out in point 4) will be processed and stored until the legal obligation resulting from the applicable law in this respect ceases, i.e., for the period necessary to achieve the purposes referred to in point 6), and for the period provided for in applicable law for the occurrence of possible claims;

11) You have the right to access the content of your data set out in point 4) and the right to rectify, delete (if legally permissible), limit processing, transfer, and object, as well as the right to withdraw consent to their processing at any time, without prejudice to the lawfulness of processing, if the legal basis for the processing of personal data is the consent of the person who gave such agreement;

12) You have the right to complain to the supervisory body, i.e., to the Polish President of the Data Protection Office when you consider that the processing of your data set out in point 4) violates the provisions of the GDPR;

13) Your data set out in point 4) will not be processed in an automated manner, including in the form of profiling;

14) Your data set out in point 4) will not be transferred to a third country / international organization unless required by the legal obligations of the Administrator.
