St. Andrew's Day in Welcome Point

Last week, on November 28, 2025, Welcome Point at the University of Economics in Katowice organized a special celebration dedicated to St. Andrew's Day. It brought together both Polish and international students, creating a warm and lively atmosphere full of learning, cultural exchange and tradition.

Introduction to St. Andrew's Day traditions

As an introduction, the Welcome Point team prepared a short presentation on the origins and historical roots of St. Andrew's Day. Students learned about old traditions associated with celebrating St. Andrew's Day and how these customs have evolved over the centuries. The presentation also highlighted how different countries celebrate this day today, comparing Polish St. Andrew's Day with celebrations in Scotland, Germany, Spain, Romania and other parts of the world. This multicultural perspective encouraged students to reflect on how traditions move and change across different cultures.

Recreating traditions

One of the highlights of the event was a fortune-telling session based on Polish customs associated with St. Andrew's Day. Participants had the opportunity to try traditional St. Andrew's Day activities, including pouring hot wax through a keyhole to obtain symbolic shapes that were supposed to predict the future.

We would like to thank the students for their active participation in the St. Andrew's Day celebrations, which were not only a lesson in culture but also a valuable and integrative meeting of the academic community.

We encourage you to regularly follow the Welcome Point profile on Instagram to stay up to date with the dates and topics of upcoming events.
