Thematic Scope

We encourage presentations that focus on the below topics and make that connection with justice and more broadly the just transition to a low-carbon economy:

Energy Sources & Technologies

  • renewable energy (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass, incentives, mandates, grid integration, land use and also inc. supportive battery technology),
  • local energy sources (decentralised generation, community energy projects, local resources),
  • hydrogen (production, distribution, utilisation),
  • waste-to-energy (technologies, waste management, public acceptance),
  • nuclear energy (power generation, safety, waste disposal, advanced reactors).

Emissions & Environmental Impact:

  • greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions reduction, Carbon Capture and Storage, methane reduction),
  • circular economy (resource efficiency, waste reduction, waste-to-energy); and
  • land use and energy infrastructure (spatial implications, land use planning, infrastructure development/decommissioning).

Energy System & Markets:

  • blackout (regulatory frameworks, system resilience, security of supply, liability and responsibility, crisis management and prevention strategies)
  • smart grid (technology deployment, privacy, smart metering),
  • electric vehicles (charging infrastructure, battery technology, grid integration).
  • energy markets (wholesale markets, retail competition, ancillary services, market failures)
  • energy security (reliable, affordable energy supplies, diversification, infrastructure resilience)
  • energy efficiency (energy conservation, efficiency improvements in buildings, industry, transport)
  • technological innovation (policies promoting clean energy technologies, green artificial intelligence).

Socio-Economic Considerations:

  • energy poverty (energy access, affordability, vulnerable consumers),
  • energy justice (distributive, procedural, recognition, restorative, and cosmopolitan justice),
  • energy taxes (carbon taxes, fuel taxes, and electricity levies).
  • energy finance (available financial capital, subsidies and international finance).
