Completion of a doctoral student's training

According to Art. 204 (1) of the Law on Higher Education and Science, studies at the Doctoral School conclude with the submission of a doctoral dissertation. To complete studies at the Doctoral School, students must earn credit for all courses included in the curriculum, achieving learning outcomes corresponding to the Level 8 qualification under the Polish Qualifications Framework (PRK), and submit their doctoral dissertation to the chair of the relevant scientific committee along with a complete set of documents (§ 27 [1] of the Rules and Regulations of the Doctoral School).

NOTE – An individual research plan (Polish short: IPB) sets the deadline for submitting a doctoral dissertation (Art. 204 (2), sentence 1 of the Law on Higher Education and Science). If you are unable to meet the deadline specified in the IPB, you must submit a request for an extension of your studies. Failure to meet the deadline specified in the IPB and failure to submit a request for an extension of your studies constitutes mandatory grounds for removal from the list of doctoral students (Art. 203 [1] of the Law on Higher Education and Science).

Extension of a doctoral student's training
The deadline for submitting a doctoral dissertation may be extended by no more than 2 years, according to the rules specified in the Rules and Regulations of the Doctoral School (§ 24 [3] of the Rules and Regulations of the Doctoral School of the University of Economics in Katowice, Resolution No. 46/2022/2023 of the Senate of the University of Economics in Katowice of March 30, 2023).A doctoral student applying for an extension of the deadline for submitting a doctoral dissertation must submit a complete application.

The document contains the following:
doctoral student's information: name, surname, PESEL number, or, if unavailable, the number of an identity document; academic year; the proposed extension period; a justification; and the supervisor’s opinion containing a detailed assessment of the progress of the doctoral dissertation, including the anticipated completion date (§ 24 [3] of the Rules and Regulations of the Doctoral School)
