Developing staff competencies through study visits, training, and an intensive course

The objective of the planned task is the development of staff at the universities belonging to the Alliance. An increase in institutional capacity is possible and most effective when it takes place in cooperation with partners at the same or a similar level of development. Therefore, it is necessary that the process of improving competencies and developing staff proceeds in parallel across all universities that form the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance.

As part of the task, the following initiatives are planned:

1. Staff Week for employees involved in the support of international students and staff

The purpose of this initiative is to enhance participants’ competencies and to strengthen relations among those responsible for supporting foreigners. Given that both the project and the activities implemented within the Alliance are largely mobility-based, it was considered justified to provide support primarily to this group of employees.
Within the framework of the Staff Week, a series of workshops is planned to deepen participants' knowledge and acquire new skills. The topics will focus on issues such as intercultural differences, building student and staff engagement, and supporting students in crisis situations.

2. Job-shadowing visits for staff

Study visits of staff members currently constitute one of the most effective tools for professional development. They enable learning about new solutions, exchanging good practices, and drawing inspiration for implementing improvements in one’s own institution. They are also an excellent opportunity to establish relationships and deepen cooperation with foreign partners.
Job-shadowing visits are an effective development tool because they allow employees to observe real processes and activities in similar institutions. Direct contact with practitioners from other universities promotes not only knowledge acquisition but also inspires the introduction of innovative solutions in one’s own work environment.

3. Training for university teachers and administrative staff using the Digital Lab

One of the activities carried out by the Alliance under the Erasmus+ project is the provision of equipment to create a Digital Lab – an interactive laboratory – at each university. This space, thanks to advanced technologies, will enable broad, distance-based cooperation between partners.
Within the project, two workshops are planned that will not only enhance staff competencies but also enable further testing of the purchased equipment. This solution is an ideal example of a complementary action in relation to the initiatives implemented within the alliance.

4. Participation in EAIE Academy On-demand courses

The task provides for staff members' participation in EAIE Academy On-demand courses – self-paced online courses aimed at individuals beginning their work in higher education internationalization or wishing to deepen their knowledge in selected specialist areas of the field.

All planned activities will contribute to achieving the following objectives:

  • an increase in staff mobility,
  • an increase in staff competencies,
  • strengthening cooperation between institutions forming the Alliance,
  • dissemination of knowledge about good practices and standards applied at universities,
  • improvement in the quality and professionalisation of services provided to international students and staff.
