Organizing "PhD Hackathon" – an innovative learning method for doctoral students
The purpose of the task is to develop the framework for an innovative doctoral education method – the hackathon – and to organize its first edition, involving 20 doctoral students from partner countries in intensive cooperation.
A hackathon is an intensive event during which teams of participants work within a limited time frame to solve a specific problem or create an innovative solution – often in the form of a prototype, application, or project concept. It is an effective tool because it combines creative thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and practical application of knowledge, fostering rapid innovation and strengthening participants’ competencies.
The event is intended to serve as a creative incubator where diverse perspectives come together to address current challenges. Research topics will reflect the wide range of disciplines represented in the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance, such as architecture, art, business, civil engineering, communication, computer science, design, digital engineering, economics, education, finance, health and life sciences, humanities, management, media, and others.
The hackathon's conclusion will include presentations of the teams’ results, expert evaluation, and selection of the best solution. The winning team will additionally receive an award.
All planned activities will contribute to achieving the following objectives:
- development of doctoral students’ competencies in teamwork, intercultural communication, and problem-solving in an interdisciplinary environment,
- promotion of innovative, collaboration-oriented, and creative methods of doctoral education,
- strengthening connections and cooperation between BAUHAUS4EU member universities at the level of young researchers,
- creation of a space for testing and implementing new research approaches consistent with the goals of sustainable development and digital transformation,
- increasing the attractiveness of the alliance’s educational offer through modern and engaging learning formats,
- strengthening the engagement of doctoral students in decision-making processes and co-creation of international academic initiatives.
Recruitment regulations, registration forms, and more information are available on the Events page in English.
