About the project

The "Green or Black? Prof. Ranadeva on the impact of climate change and transformation" project gives us the chance to invite a world-class scientist whose vital and highly regarded research focuses on regional transformation, investment in green technologies, and climate change. His involvement is especially valuable for supporting current research and identifying new research directions at the University of Economics in Katowice. This is particularly relevant to the activities of the recently established Faculty of Spatial Economy and Regions in Transition.

Cooperation with Prof. Jayasekera is also justified by his area of expertise and his scientific and research activities. This applies to Prof. Jayasekera's exceptional research conducted in the areas of:

  • Transformation process trajectories (in terms of entities and regions)
  • Processes for decision-making on investing in green technologies

Prof. Jayasekera conducts the abovementioned research regarding the region's transformation issues, including those resulting from the requirements of the green economy.

Considering the implementation process of the European Green Deal policy, the decarbonization process, and the difficulties associated with it for our region (Silesia), Prof. Jayasekera's knowledge and experience will be particularly important for further planning of research projects supporting regional development.

Researchers from the University of Economics and other regional universities will have a rare opportunity to examine best practices in preparing research projects and identifying significant topics with high social impact.

The project was initiated and prepared by dr hab. Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala, with the support of Internationalization.

The project has been co-financed by the Metropolis GZM within the framework of the "Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund" program. All activities planned for the project are scheduled to be implemented in 2025, and the total grant amount is PLN 51,381.00
