About the project

The "AI in Anti-Money Laundering – cases related to cryptocurrencies" project is a response to contemporary challenges related to AML in the areas of cryptocurrencies and DeFi (decentralized finance). The growing importance of decentralized finance, including cryptocurrencies, requires modern tools for detecting suspicious transactions and effective risk monitoring. As part of the project, world-class scientist Dr Bogdan Adamyk, who works at Aston University, has been invited as a guest speaker.
The issue of using artificial intelligence in decentralized finance was already the subject of last year's project "Implementing Blended Education in decentralized finance (DEFI) using artificial intelligence (Artificial Intelligence AI))," conducted as part of a broader AI in Cybersecurity and Finance initiative, thanks to the support of the Metropolis GZM Fund.
The project builds upon earlier initiatives and is targeted at students, particularly those aspiring to be financial analysts and experts in combating fraud in financial markets, including money laundering. The presence of a researcher at the University of Economics in Katowice complements Prof. Benson's visit. There is a significant demand for this type of activity, as previously reported by researchers during their visits in 2024. The expert workshops organized for the academic staff of UE Katowice, which presented the principles of blended education using artificial intelligence (AI) in decentralized finance (DeFi), were met with great interest.
Furthermore, the researcher's knowledge and experience will help us identify and understand the potential threats and challenges posed by money laundering. The invited guest is primarily an industry professional and, as such, a source of vast knowledge and experience.
The project manager is dr Piotr Dąbrowski, and it is implemented with the support of Internationalization.
The project has been co-financed by the Metropolis GZM within the framework of the "Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund" program. All activities planned for the project are scheduled to be implemented in 2025, and the total grant amount is PLN 27,621.00.
