About the project

The project "Professor Teerooven Soobaroyen on improving management processes in regional transformation" strives to enhance knowledge of properly programmed management processes in the area of governance and accountability of public institutions.

Establishing cooperation with Prof. Soobaroyen is also justified by his area of interest and scientific and research activity. This applies to Prof. Soobaroyen's outstanding research performed in the following areas:

  • review and development of corporate governance codes in the public sector
  • ESG assessment frameworks and related reporting in public sector entities
  • public sector financial management practices

Considering the implementation of the European Green Deal policy framework, the decarbonization process and the challenges connected to our region (Silesia), the researcher's knowledge and experience will be essential for further planning of research projects supporting regional development. Notably, Prof. Soobaroyen focuses on supporting regions that are undergoing various stages of transition towards the requirements of a green economy with his knowledge and expertise.

Recently, Prof. Soobaroyen's research has focused on the interrelationships between accounting, responsibility, and management. This research encompasses a range of empirical settings, including public sector institutions, non-governmental organizations, and higher education institutions.

Researchers from our University and other universities in the region will have a rare opportunity to learn about the best standards for preparing research projects and identifying topics that are relevant and have a high social impact.

The project was initiated and prepared by dr hab. Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala , prof. UE, with the support of Internationalization.

The project has been co-financed by the Metropolis GZM within the framework of the "Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund" program. All activities planned for the project are scheduled to be implemented in 2025, and the total grant amount is PLN 69,201.00.

Scientist's profile

Prof. Teerooven (Teeven) Soobaroyen has been Director of Research at Aston University, Aston Business School, since 2023.

From 2020 to 2022, he served as President of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA).

He has received numerous grants from prestigious international institutions, including UNESCO, the World Bank, the FRC (Financial Reporting Council) and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Currently, Prof. Soobaroyen's academic achievements are distinguished by an exceptionally high number of scientific publications and a citation index of his works (5,430 citations, with an H-index of 49 according to Google Scholar), a remarkable result in accounting. 

Prof. Soobaroyen also serves as editor-in-chief of four leading scientific journals on accounting and sustainable development (Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies, IF=3.80, Sustainability Accounting Management and Policy Journal, IF=5.9; Accounting Forum, IF=2.8, Journal of Accounting Literature, IF=4.2).
