The "Understanding Green Finance: Prof. Thomas Walker" project aims to improve the scientific research level of our University by creating a space for collaborative research in green finance and increasing scientific work internationalization. In the methodological aspect, Professor Walker will provide mentoring support in implementing research projects by experienced academics and young researchers. The scientific staff of our University will primarily benefit from the Professor's vast experience in scientific publications, with Professor Walker being the Editor-in-Chief of several major journals on sustainable finance.

Also planned is joint work on a scientific paper, which is a continuation of the work, the first stage of which occurred in 2023/2024. As part of the research, Professor Walker will provide substantive support based on his vast experience in the implementation of the idea of sustainable finance (in Canada and the United States, among others) and join the "Mathematical, statistical and econometric methods in sustainable finance" study conducted at the Faculty of Finance. In addition, Professor Walker will conduct a guest lecture for our students of Finance and Accounting with the participation of doctoral students and students of the Silesian University of Technology (Faculty of Organization and Management), covering aspects of sustainable finance from the business practice point of view.

Our guest will also join the Greening Energy Markets and Finance project being conducted at the Department.

The project was initiated and prepared by dr hab. Ewa Dziwok, prof. UE, with the support of Internationalization.

The project has been co-financed by the Metropolis GZM within the framework of the "Metropolitan Science and Education Support Fund" program for the years 2022-2024. All planned activities will be carried out in 2024. The total value of the project is PLN 59,301.00.

Scientist’s profile

Professor Thomas Walker is a leading expert in sustainable finance, particularly its risks. He has an impressive scholarly record, including publications in recognized professional journals and books. He is the Editor-in-Chief of five publications on sustainable financial systems, sustainable real estate, sustainable aviation, environmental policy, and emerging risk management.

Professor Walker works at Concordia University.

He has practical experience in consulting and management. He is also an active member of various advisory boards and steering committees, including Concordia's Institute for Water, Energy, and Sustainable Systems and the CN Center for Sustainable Supply Chain Management.
