1st Youth International Scientific Conference "Energy Justice & the Energy Transition" [coverage]

On 5 November 2025, the first edition of the International Conference of Young Researchers - Young International Academic Conference 2025 (YIAC 2025) was held at the Silesian Information Science Center and Academic Library (CINiBA) in Katowice. The event was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Science and Academic Staff Development prof. dr hab. Maciej Nowak, the Head of the Department of Energy Transition, dr hab. Marzena Czarnecka, prof. UE, and dr Marcin Kraśniewski.

YIAC 2025 served as an outstanding platform for the exchange of ideas among students, PhD candidates and early-career researchers from across Poland who are interested in energy justice and the energy transition. Participants presented innovative, creative and unconventional approaches to the challenges of today’s energy sector, developing their research competences as well as their public speaking skills.

The conference opened with presentations delivered by experts from Spain, England and Italy. The speakers discussed the issues faced by their home countries and presented projects that are currently being developed intensively. Next, Polish professors representing universities from Silesia and the Warmia-Masuria region took the floor. After the presentations, a discussion session was held, concluding the first part of the conference.

The second part of the event was led by representatives of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and academic centres from Ankara, Turkey. They were followed once again by Polish professors, who addressed, among other topics, the functioning of local energy units, social responsibility and taxation systems, as well as the importance of well-planned infrastructure around energy facilities.

An important element of the programme was a dialogue with experts in energy law and the energy transition, which enabled the young participants to connect theoretical perspectives with the practical challenges faced by the energy sector.

The event accompanied the 3rd International Scientific Conference "Energy Justice & Energy Transition - Global, Europe, State" and was organised by the Energy Transition Student Research Group and the Department of Energy Transition at the University of Economics in Katowice.
